Good Anglo-Saxon Books!
1. Woden's Warriors
This book explores some of the ideas and resources used by warriors in Anglo-Saxon England and Northern Europe during the 6th and 7th centuries.
2. The Elders Gods
Its purpose is to bring together a range of evidence for pre-Christian ideas about the Otherworld drawn from archaeology, studies and mythology.
3. Beowulf.
We're reading this book in class. It's a warrior named Beowulf defeating a monster named Grendel. It's really good and warrior like. Beowulf is one of the oldest surviving epic poems in what is identifiable as an early form of the English language
Languages.
Anglo-Saxon usually spoke Old English, which is good because Iman and I primarily speak English. Old English is close to Germanic languages.
This is how you can speak Old English
Common Verbs
1. Say "art" instead of "are," as in, "Art thou coming?"
2. Use "dost" instead of "do," as in "Dost thou play cricket?"
3.Say "hath" in place of "has" as in, "Hath she any bread?"
4. Add the endings "est" to many verbs. For instance, you might say, "Needest thou some assistance?"
Pronouns
1.Use the terms "thee," "thou" or "ye," instead of "you," as in, "Thou must visit soon."
2. Say "thy" or "thine" instead of "your" or "yours," as in, "It is thy responsibility."
3. Replace "I" with "me" in certain subject-verb combinations, such as, "Methinks thou art rude."
Famous Anglo-Saxons.
We love these people!! Heres some information on them.
Edwin was King of Northumbria from 616 to 632. Although he was heir of Ælla, king of Deira, Æthelfrith stopped Edwin from claiming his title. Rædwald, king of East Anglia, protected Edwin until 616 whereupon he beat Æthelfrith and gave the kingdom back to Edwin. Edwin is seen as making Northumbria the most powerful kingdom ever in Anglo-Saxon history. This pagan king also allowed himself to be converted to Christianity by St. Paulinus in 627. Today we can see Edwin in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Not only did he build the town, his naming of it, Edwin's Burgh became the modern-day Edinburgh that we know today.
Cuthbert began a humble life as a shepherd in Melrose, Scotland. It is said that as he was tending sheep, Cuthbert had a vision. At the moment of having the vision, St. Aiden who had founded the Priory of Lindisfarne died. St. Aiden was a very holy man and the blend of his death and the vision urged Cuthbert to become a monk. After his training, Cuthbert founded a monastery of his own in Ripon. After losing the monastery for refusing to accept the Roman's way of religion, he returned to Melrose and took over the priory there. In 664, Roman tradition was ruled as the "way to go," and so finally Cuthbert accepted it. After being given the Priory of Lindisfarne, he taught the new traditions to the monks. In 685, Cuthebert accepted the title of Bishop of Lindisfarne. Two years later, Cuthbert died.

Foods & Drinks
The foods the Anglo Saxons ate seems really good. Most Anglo-Saxons were extremely vegetarian which is good because vegetarians are healthy. Their protein usually came from chicken, duck, and goose. Everyone loves chicken so it's amazing. They ate seafood like crabs, crawfish, lobsters, and oysters. I love sea food, their food seemed pretty good.
I absolutely love the story about the mead halls back in the Anglo-Saxon time period. Sometimes, I wish I was born in the Anglo-Saxon time period. The mead hall was basically a feasting hall. They're rumors that the dead would come back to life. It was basically a big circular house with everything in their, an information hall, tables, feasting, people, and fun!
